Gas Chromatographic Studies of Interaction of Water and Methanol Molecules
with the Surface of Carbon Materials

Gas chromatographic method is used to study the interaction of water and methanol molecules with ac- tive hydrophilic centres on the surface of thermally exfoliated graphite and graphitised carbon black. The concentration of the carboxyl and phenol hydroxyl groups at the surface of the sorbents and the heats of adsorption of studied molecules at these groups are determined. It is shown that the adsorption of water molecules at the hydrophilic centres of the studied sorbents at lowest values of relative pressure results in the formation of clusters with the number of molecules in a cluster n = 2.
