Oxidation of Diethylsulfide with Hydrogen Peroxide Catalyzed by Bicarbonate
and Silicate Anions in Water and Aqueous Alcohols

Kinetics of diethylsulfide (Et2S) oxidation with hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by bicarbonate and silicate anions is in agreement with the assumption of intermediate formation of peroxymonocarbonate (HCO4- ) and peroxymonosilicate (HSiO4- - ). The reaction rate of Et2S with HCO4- - is about 100 times that of with H2O2. Transfer of the reaction into water-alcohol mixtures gives rise to increased solubility of Et2S, with the catalytic effects being unchanged.
