Effect of Rare-Earth Element Oxides (CeО2, La2О3) on Properties
of Pd/Al2O3 Catalysts of Nitrogen Oxides Reduction by Methane

It was shown that thermostability of supported Pd/Al2O3 catalysts increases as a result of modifying with
rare-earth element oxides (La2O3 and Ce2O3). An effect of thermal activation of alumo-palladium catalyst
modified with lanthanum oxide was found. This effect consisted in increase of specific catalytic activity in
high temperature reduction of nitrogen oxides by methane after heat treatment of the catalyst at 850 oC.
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy data have showed that the effect of thermal activation is conditioned by
stabilization of palladium in the state of Pd1+.
