Surface Energy of Hydrophobic Adsorbents

The adsorption and wetting heats of water on hydrophilic hydromica and hydrophobised samples of kaolinite and silochrom were studied. The contact angles of wetting of the studied substances by water were found. The thermodynamic characteristics of the sorbents surface and interfacial area at the bound- ary with water are calculated from the obtained data. It was shown that the boundary water layers near the hydrophilic surface of hydromica are more ordered, while the layers near the hydrophobic surfaces of modified kaolinite and silochrom samples and of the reference object, the extremely hydrophobised Tef- lon, are less ordered as compared with liquid water.
