Kinetics of Catalytic Hydrochlorination of Acetylene on the Surface
of Mechanically Pre-Activated K2PtCl4 Salt

The catalysis of hydrochlorination of acetylene by gaseous HCl at room temperature on the surface of
K2PtCl4 salt mechanically pre-activated in the atmosphere of acetylene was found. The product of acety-
lene hydrochlorination was formed by trans-addition. The value of kinetic isotope effect (KIE) when HCl
is replaced on DCl is 5 ± 1, and essentially exceeds the value 1.9 of KIE for earlier studied catalytic
hydrochlorination of acetylene on the surface of mechanically pre-activated K2PtCl4 salt. The large dif-
ference in KIE values argues for different reaction mechanisms in these systems.
